The unseen histories and tactilities of the apparatuses, which define the boundaries between together and apart, gain new significance when applied to current patterns of new-wave capitalism. In a time of ‘Get Fit, Get Lit’, the perpetual re-patterning of participants as producers of product, has spun us into an era where individualism is celebrated, but perhaps at the cost of sovereignty. Our bodies serve as locations of strength, defiance, and community, but what are we buying into when we better ourselves? What shape does the interdependence take between our bodies and the apparatuses of control? Who are we getting so strong for, to protect, and protect from? Refinishing ourselves is what we have to feel empowered. The market risk of our elliptical trainers sending us flailing into a teleological vortex, where we voluntarily perform for others, genuinely believing it to be an act of agency, is something worth considering. Wear orthopedics and keep dancing, keep it complicated, and don't forget to stretch. The harder the muscle of power is to locate the stronger it is. As soon as we think we know, we're wrong - there's the rub.
